TBL 6×49: Another Elimination, another Contest… and a time warp!

Does anyone else find it kind of annoying that The Biggest Loser didn’t air due to Good Friday but it is airing on Anzac Day, despite not ordinarily airing on Mondays?

Just me? Okay.

Last night on The Biggest Loser… JOE GAINED WEIGHT! HAHAHAHAHA.
Lara was sent home, again, after losing at the challenge to get back into the house.
Rebecca and Emma both made it straight back into the house and now Nathaniel and Joe are battling it out to stay in the house.

Also tonight we have a revisit with Dr Swan and his Bio Age calculations. Also a revisit with their former fat selves who have a message for their future selves. It’s like time travel! Only not…

A new challenge will also kick off and it’ll be another that ends in an elimination. Though we’ll probably not see that until Wednesday.
Whyyyyyyy? Why must you mess with the airing days right in the last week?!

Anyway…

Joe and Nathaniel are still rowing away. Joe’s talking about how he’s having to compete against Nathaniel and it makes him feel terrible but he’s just got to do it to stay in the game.
Nathaniel’s still just ahead. Exactly where he was last night. Surprising!

Nathaniel and Joe are neck and neck right to the end… And then Nathaniel pips Joe at the post by a matter of metres!
Joe’s a bit sad about being eliminated but also proud of Nathaniel for winning.

Quite a different tune to what he told the paper in the link Meg posted in the comments section of the previous post. Threw the challenge for the sake of Nathaniel? Riiiiiiight.

Joe says he’s a bit disappointed, he’d wanted to get into the Final Four and be in the money but in the end no amount of money could buy his health back.
And while it’s been very hard to be away from his family it’s been worth it for the way it’s changed his life.

But now it’s time to say goodbye. Awwww!
Nate and Joe have a hug afterwards and Joe says he’s proud of how far Nate’s come. And Nate says that Joe has changed a lot, Nate hated his guts when they came in but it’s a big change now.

Joe tells us his time in Camp has changed the way he thinks about his family and his life.
And the journey wasn’t just about losing weight it was about changing his life, etc etc.

BYE JOE! Nobody’s going to miss you!

Nathaniel is now officially back into the competition. Final six!
Hayley says that they’re down to the final six. And Leigh quietly says, “But don’t get complacent…” Hayley so predictable!

After the Elimination the trainers come in and Michelle’s surprised to see Nathaniel still there.
“Oh. Em. Gee.” Mish says to us.
Michelle’s very pleased to see Nathaniel but also so surprised that Joe lost because he usually beats Nathaniel at the rowing.

So now Nathaniel’s knocked out two powerhouses in one week – Lara and Joe – Shannan says. So it’s time to sit back and take stock of your position. Nothing is as it seems!

Time to head to the big gym and it’s Dr Swan there to update their bio ages. Professor Paul Taylor from the Personal Training Academy is there as well.
Dr Swan reminds them all they were at risk of diabetes and heart disease and all sorts of ugly diseases. Some of them were more than 22 years older, biologically, than they were chronologically.

Sarah’s the first to get an update.
Chrono: 29
Old Bio: 45
New Bio: 35

Not bad. 10 year improvement on her old bio age and she says that’s great and she knows she still has room to improve. Dr Swan says the main thing she needs is to get the waist circumference back down as that’s her main risk factor at the moment.

Nathaniel’s next.
Chrono: 19
Old Bio: 31
New Bio: 22

Wow, 9 year improvement and only 3 years over his actual age now.

Rebecca’s turn.
Chrono: 34
Old Bio: 45
New Bio: 34

Yay! Well done Rebecca, back to where she should be. She says she feels fabulous. It’s not just been a physical journey for the Moons but a mental one as well.

Kellie now.
Chrono: 34
Old Bio: 42
New Bio: 32

Wow! She’s actually younger than her chrono age! Kellie’s really happy and she knows she’s not at her goal weight yet.
Dr Swan says what she’s done by getting a younger bio age is that she’ll actually live longer than average due to her good health. And Shannan and Michelle say that she’s not only got 10 years back for her 3 month investment it’ll be 10 QUALITY years with her family.

Emma!
Chrono: 25
Old Bio: 37
New Bio: 22

Wow, an even bigger improvement. 15 years off her old bio age. She says she feels 22 again now too. And she wasn’t planning on kids before coming on the show, she thought maybe a baby would cheer her up but ultimately she had to get her weight in order first. Now she’s been home for a few weeks she knows she wants to start a family and she’s ready to do so.

Last but not least, Leigh. After the ad break.
Chrono: 23
Old Bio: 34
New Bio: 18

HOLY CRAP! 16 years off his bio age. He’s almost halved his age, in fact. And Paul says his aerobic fitness has improved 75%, which is a huge improvement.
Everyone’s staggered by Leigh’s improvement. Michelle wonders if they can even handle him at 18!

Dr Swan says you’ve got to keep up with the changes to keep living that healthier life. There’s only one more week of the external pressure to be healthy and then they’re off into the big bad world to do it for themselves.

And now… it’s time for the time capsule to get dug up! Remember that? They all recorded messages for their future selves and now they’re off at the oval digging them up.

First to see the dvd is Nathaniel. I’d forgotten how terrible he looked back then. He was just a blob of fat, really.
Old Nate says he wants to remind future Nate how crap he was feeling back then. And he hopes everything is ten times better in the future.
Michelle is lost for words. She just keeps looking between the TV and current Nathaniel in amazement.
Nathaniel was so sad back then, Mish says. Nathaniel’s gone out and signed back up for hockey again on the outside. And he’s been to the beach and he doesn’t lack self confidence nor is he really depressed anymore.
He can barely recognise old Nathaniel.

Fat-Sarah is fatter. But realistically current Sarah still looks fat too. She’s still got a ways to go, at least in the face.
Which she puts to work once again, making a giant “O” face at herself on the TV.
Sarah says she doesn’t want to watch it as old Sarah keeps talking. Steve eventually stops the dvd and says it’s obvious she’s upset.
What gave it away, Commando? Was it the tears?
Sarah says she remembers when Steve kept telling her to stop dwelling on the past and move forward and keep fighting.
Sarah doesn’t want to forget how she felt back then because it’s giving her the determination to keep going.

Rebecca’s on after an ad break. Fat-Rebecca congratulates Future-Rebecca on making it that far. Big difference between old Rebecca and new Rebecca. She’s not a big fat oblong with a fat head poking out the top. She has curvy bits and a proper chin!

Leigh’s next. Fat-Leigh says hello to his goodlooking future self. He’s hoping future Leigh is closer to his goal weight now and that he can finally propose to Lara! Awww!
Shannan asks if the guy on the TV would be proud of the guy sitting next to him and Leigh says absolutely. He didn’t even remember the goal weight thing and Leigh’s actually already beaten his goal weight.
Leigh says he’d previously just figured he and Lara would get married whenever and everything would work itself out. He now knows that it’s something you’ve got to plan for and do it at the right time.
Leigh feels like he’s ready to propose to Lara now. Awww!

Kellie’s turn now. She remembers making her video but she doesn’t remember what she said.
Fat-Kellie says that future-Kellie doesn’t want to go back to being fat. She needs the energy to play with her kids and she doesn’t want to feel tired and fat and bloated and unattractive. She doesn’t want her husband to ever feel disappointed in her. Awww!
Kellie says she wasn’t a Mum to the kids back then. She took care of them and put them to bed and so on but she didn’t really set a good example for them.
And she used to push her husband away which was terrible and she regrets it now. She loves her husband more than anything and she wants to go home and show him that. Giggity!
Kellie doesn’t want to have sacrificed 3 months with her family for nothing.
Steve offers Kellie a hug too. Very unusual behaviour. Someone must have spiked his drink.

Tiffiny and Emma sit down next.
“Hi skinny-Emma!” Fat-Emma is proud of Skinny-Emma eating all her vegetables and fruits that she doesn’t like.
Meanwhile Tiffiny’s still trying to get over the shock of seeing fat-Emma again.
Old-Emma says she’s lost 25kg before and put it back on. Don’t let that happen again!
Tiff and Emma have a look at each other and Emma laughs and says, “SHE WAS FAT!”
Emma promises herself and Tiff that she won’t be putting that weight back on again.
Tiff asks her if they make a video today and bury it for 3 years, she’ll still be the same fit Emma? Emma says yes! Well, she might have a baby-bump but she will otherwise be the healthy, fit Emma she is now.

Everyone heads off in their colour coded cars to destination unknown.
They end up in… I dunno, some kind of warehouse? Maybe one of the sheds at the Showground?
There’s stairs and tires and various things all over the place.

Hayley says they’re in the final week and this will be the final Contest. And everything is on the line, this time – at the end of The Contest one of them will be going home.
Leigh says he’d be devastated to go home now after getting so far.
Nate says he deserves to be in the Final Four (why? you got eliminated, boy!) and he doesn’t want to let the Challenor Family down.

The Super Contest will take place over three rounds.
In rounds one and two the top two performing contestants will be rendered safe from Elimination. In the third round it’ll be down to the final two and the loser in that round will be going home.

So it’s a safe bet that Leigh, Emma and Nathaniel will be safe in the first two rounds…

First round is flipping a tire, end over end, as many times as you can within one minute.
Kellie’s up first. She says the tire is about 80kg so she’s not sure how many times she’ll be able to flip it.

One! One flip!
Two! Three!
She’s getting into a rhythm as she goes along after struggling a bit on the first.
She finishes with 7 flips in all. Remains to be seen if that’s enough!

Rebecca is up next. She seems to be doing it more easily than Kellie but in the end only manages 5, making Kellie’s 7 seem like a much better effort.

Emma’s never flipped a tire before and it being 70kg is a little daunting, she says.
Emma pushes through 6 in her one minute. Putting her in second place.

Leigh says Nathaniel’s the one to watch tonight after he took out Lara and Joe in the last few days.
And it’s Nate’s turn now.
Nathaniel is powering through it, getting to 9 with 20 seconds remaining!
In the end he finishes with 13 flips which is an amazing effort and puts him into first place and, so far, safe!

Leigh’s turn. He’s got to be another big challenger in this round.
But in the end he only manages to get 12 flips before the end.

Sarah needs to beat Leigh’s 12.5 flips to proceed. Sarah’s one of the Commando’s trainees so she’s very familiar with flipping tires. She’s done it in the mud before, no less.
But as she goes for her very first lift she can’t manage to get it above her knees and then she pretty much drops it right on her hand. Ouch!

After an ad break she’s complaining about her hand. She tells us that she thought she broke some knuckles. Hayley’s encouraging her to use her legs to do the lift.
Sarah’s about ready to give up but she’s determined to get at least one flip to prove she can do it.
In the end she does manage to get the tire all the way over and then decides to save herself for round two.

This means Nathaniel and Leigh get the first two safe passes through, as expected!

Emma, Kellie, Sarah and Rebecca now fight it out in Round Two.
Round Two is a race to see who can get 26 car tires from Point A to Point B the quickest. First two to make it will be safe. Last two will have to fight in Round Three.
In between Point A and Point B are some steps they have to go over.

Due to safety concerns they’re only allowed to carry two tires at a time, which is disappointing to Sarah as she thinks she could have carried five at a time, but for that rule.

Nathaniel and Leigh are sitting at the finish line calling encouragement to the girls and helping to keep the tires tidy at the end. Sometimes. But mostly just sitting on their butts enjoying the time off!

The tires are starting to get very heavy for each of the girls. Emma’s taken the lead from Kellie and Rebecca is trailing behind Kellie.
Sarah, the one who thought she could carry five at once, is bringing up the rear once again!

Hayley reminds them they have to stack their tires when they’re done, which might be why the boys had to stop helping.

Emma stacks her tires at the end and finishes in first place with Kellie in second place and Rebecca and Sarah having to face off in the final round.

Meaning Sarah will be going home on Wednesday night, surely?

But wait, maybe not?
Round Three is the classic contest – Tug of War!
Definitely an advantage to Sarah in this since she has a big weight advantage.

Final round will be a best of three.
Sarah understands what Nathaniel and Joe went through, competing against a family member.
Rebecca has no such scruples, she’s trying to psych Sarah out, staring right into her eyes. Sarah’s pretty much laughing in her face, pulling faces at her and kissing her off. Funny lady!

Ready, set… GO!

Wednesday night we find out who wins.

Then it’s time for the hike with the increasing weights in the backpack we now get every year. But not in New Zealand, this time! They’re staying in Sydney and going to do the hike over sand dunes.
Ouch, that’s going to hurt.
