Season 4 schedule revealed; suckage confirmed.

The official website has put up the episode schedule for season 4 of The Biggest Loser Australia… and it looks exactly the same as last year’s schedule.

For those who have yet to see it:

  • Sunday: Weigh-in
  • Monday: Elimination
  • Tuesday: The Warehouse
  • Wednesday: Temptation
  • Thursday: The Walk
  • Friday: Major Challenge

For the uninitiated, each contestant weighs in on Sunday. In previous seasons the team which lost the least weight, based on percentage of their total weight, would face Elimination on Monday night. Expect something similar this year, with a Couples-y twist!

The Warehouse was a new addition last season and one which was widely regarded as pointless and a waste of the timeslot. Will they have taken the criticisms on board? Last year The Warehouse involved one team getting their choice of food for the week from two available options. They may have had to choose between red meat and white meat, for instance. The idea being that the teams would have to discuss the pros and cons of each choice, helping to inform the general public. In reality it lead to more bickering between the teams and many of the “choices” were no-brainers like canned goods versus fresh produce.

Temptation is where the contestants are tempted with some unhealthy foods in exchange for a prize, or a chance at a prize. Prizes have ranged from televisions to personal chefs and massages and even the much-prized immunity from elimination. It’s dramatic virtually every week and those who succumb to Temptation give great TV when their trainers put them through punishing exercise routines in response.

The Walk is another unique part of the Australian version of the series and is even more widely reviled than The Warehouse, yet it is apparently returning this year. The Walk lets one contestant pick up a random stone which has a hidden message written on it. Sometimes these messages can be fairly benign – one team gets a catered dinner. More often they completely circumvent the general course of the game by offering the power of instant elimination to the rock chooser or the ability to add 5 or even 10 kilograms to a team’s weight. The only instance of The Walk not being a cynical manipulation has been its use to select which reserve contestants would be put into the main game after a couple of contestants were forced to drop out due to health issues.

Friday night brings us the “major challenge” of the week. Past challenges have included tugging airplanes across the tarmac in a race between the teams, scaling all the stairs in a very tall office building, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a variety of slugfests at the house such as lugging lumber or running on the treadmills for hours on end. Always a great way to end the week!

And just a note to go out on – the Season 4 Contestant pages are up here on the Recap. You can access the very sparse profiles from the menu above. There’s very little information available on the official site as yet but once more becomes available I’ll get them updated.

Two more sleeps!

I love your recaps. They are very humorous and give a great descriptive of the previous show.
I come to your site as I'm not always home to watch the episodes, but when I do have a chance, I grab a coffee and read your recaps which give me all the info I need without the BS.
Thanks and congrats on a great job

Agressive? No, I dont think so. They were genuine questions.

There are many blogs, and websites around that post the same old same old, and I for one and looking for new information rather than repeats of other peoples websites.
If you were to state that you actually had access to information that wasn't actually repeated over and over elsewhere I would make a genuine effort to read your blog daily to update what information I can get on TBL and pass on the link to your site to friends and also post it on my own Blog to promote your information.

However it seems that you really just get your information from the same sources as other websites, newspapers and magazines it is obvious to me that i've wasted mine and your time.

I hope you have a nice season of TBL

    Might see you at BehindBigBrother

  • Genuine questions perhaps, but phrases like "knock off" and insinuating I'm trying to pass the site off as official? It's certainly not the nicest way to go about it. ;)

I do post "spoilers" and the like, when I find them, but realistically any such information, even if I got it first, would be all over the internet shortly thereafter. If you're not interested in the recaps that give the site its name I'm not sure why you'd come here at all, to be honest. Anything I do dig up would just as easily find it's way to sites like... well, like BehindBigBrother. :)

I doubt you'll see me on BehindBigBrother, but anything is possible.

So basically you just knock off information from the offical website Like Their photos, their bio's, updates, you name it.. and use it on your website to make it look all official? Do you actually get any information yourself from the contestants? Or is everything you post already available on the internet on the official site or from newspapers , magazines and other media?
  • Well, that's a little aggressive, isn't it? Fortunately I'm on a banana cupcake high so I'll answer politely. :)

Yes, obviously I get a lot of my information from the official site, particularly before the season has started. Unless you're affiliated with the show (I'm not) or a mainstream journalist who has access to resources that I don't, that's most of what you can get.
I don't put profile pages here to "look all official" though... and in fact the profile pages here tend to end up more useful than the official ones since I keep the contestants weights updated week to week and link to the episode where they're eliminated, when appropriate. An example of this would be Andrew "Cosi" Costello from last season - http://www.mythor.net/thebiggestloser/contestan...
A better example of how my profiles differ would be last year's winner, Sam. His page has a link to his Facebook fan club - which I contacted his brother about - as well as a link to where you could watch his promo ad. I also included some other notes about Sam as there was a lot of talk over what he was studying at uni. Here's his page - http://www.mythor.net/thebiggestloser/contestan...
There are more examples (and I need to fix some profiles that have borked text) but while it is true that a lot of the information I put on the pages is publicly available, it isn't just a repository of other people's information. ;)

In any event the profiles are a very, very small part of the site which is why they were relegated to a footnote. What most people come here for is the Recaps of the episodes. This link will take you to the recap of the finale - http://www.mythor.net/thebiggestloser/2008/05/0... - to give you an idea of why this site really exists.
And yes, technically it's sort of a transcription of what is happening on the screen so I guess it's "knocked off" too. But I have fun doing it and I post them because people seem to appreciate it. If this isn't the site for you then that is perfectly fine. There's always the official site and the official forums and a myriad other unofficial sites. :)
