Biggest Loser Australia 3×54: Seven Deadly Tonnes Challenge

Tonight on The Biggest Loser the fatties face the Seven Deadly Tonnes. Seven piles of material that each add up to a ton.

And big surprise, Bryce is talking a big game once again. Who’s winning again? Oh, right…

Would you like to know more?

Shannan says there’s two simple ingredients to win this series. Consistency in training and having your nutritional needs met every day.
Shannan tells us that good nutrition at this stage of the game is everything.
Shannan finds out what his Blues are eating for lunch and they’re having chicken and salad sandwiches.

Then Shannan tells them that for effective weight management, they’ve got to be regular. You know, DOWN THERE. Okay he doesn’t say the last bit but he’s talking about fibre, so we all know what he’s talking about, right? Right.
Shannan says digestion is important in long term weight management. You need lots of fibre and lots of water, which helps keep you regular and keep your weight down.

Sam says before coming into the show his diet was pretty irregular. A healthy diet is such an important part of the game. You can do all the exercise you want but if you don’t have the right diet you’re not going to lose the weight.
We see replay footage of Sam pigging out on potato chips and the difference between then and now is astonishing.
Kirsten says before coming into the house she had carbs and lots of them. Every night, potatoes, rice, pasta, without even thinking about it. She now eats a lot more protein and only eats carbs at breakfast and lunch, not at night.
Alison says her old portion sizes were out of control and she had a lot of carbohydrates. And she used to finish the day with chocolate. And now what it comes down to is eating for fuel, rather than just pure enjoyment.

Shannan is impressed with them all and their dietary control, so he says he’s going to go off and find something for himself to eat!
He tells us that Blue’s diet hasn’t changed since Day One and that consistency has really helped them.

And now it’s Challenge time, yay!
Everyone heads out in workshirts and big boots, so Cosi says they figure something is up.

Ajay’s out in a field somewhere in the kind of dress the term “peasant dress” was invented for.

The contestants will face the seven deadly tonnes. Oooh!

Each contestant will get an assigned pile and they’ll have to move their tonne from where the objects started to the other end of the field.

First person to complete the challenge will get a high definition 42″ television from Samsung. Sweet!
Kirsten is dying to win it because her telly broke just before coming into the House, and everyone else knows that too.

But you definitely don’t want to come last. Because whoever comes last will have to weigh in right after the challenge. Ouch.
Bryce says you miss out on a day of training, which is important. Garry’s not bothered, since he has immunity anyway!

Final stipulation – once you’ve finished carrying your own tonne, you can help one of the other contestants finish their tonne. Ajay says they have to think carefully about who to help.
Bryce says he’d help Michelle, of course. He says there’s a misconception that there’s no more teams but there absolutely are.
Garry says he’d definitely not help Bryce or Michelle, they’re still Black Team as far as he’s concerned.

They draw cards at random from Ajay’s hand to select which pile they have to carry.

Alison has pile #1 which is a tonne of bricks. “Great!” – Alison says, with just a touch of sarcasm!

Kirsten has #2. Which is a tonne of sandbags.

Sam has #3 which is a tonne of steel poles. Sam thinks it shouldn’t be too bad if he can carry a few at a time.

Bryce has #4, which “looks pretty daunting” Ajay says. He has a tonne of tires.

Michelle has #5 which is a tonne of wooden logs, fairly thin ones but still. It’s a tonne. Michelle’s not too worried though because the Commando had them working out with logs all the time.

#6 is for Cosi. And it’s a tonne of water in large jugs plus some 600ml bottles. Awkward, so it’ll be difficult.

Garry lucks out in a sense, since he has a tonne of weights, weight plates and dumbells. All designed to be lifted, after all!

Ajay has a big hooter. Thingy. Hooter thingy!

Cosi’s trying to work out the best way to carry his pile of water. Sam is surprised at how heavy the metal poles are and they’re getting stuck together, too.
Michelle is struggling with her wood. She says it’s a lot more difficult than she thought they’d be.

Garry and Bryce are both doing well. Garry’s carrying a fair few weights at a time and Bryce is carrying a bunch of tires at once, too. But then, Bryce also has a whole heap of tires!
Kirsten is struggling with her crappy sandbags. They’re plasticky, not the hessian kind.
Alison is determined not to come last, sore foot or not!

With all the piles being of different things it’s hard to say who’s winning.

Sam says he figured Michelle would have troubles with the wood, same as he was with his metal poles. It’s not so much the weight of them, it’s the awkwardness.
Cosi figures Bryce would be his main competitor and with Bryce doing so many tires at once, the pile doesn’t look so big after all. And Cosi says he’s been up and down the field so many times and the pain is just insane.

Kirsten says a few people suggested to Garry that he should just take it easy since he has immunity, give everyone else a shot at it.

Sam comes up with a new strategy. He lines two long ones up then lays a couple of short ones across them, since they stick together it makes it a lot easier!

Michelle says Garry and Cosi’s piles are getting a lot smaller and she can’t believe how hard they’re going for this. She still doesn’t understand that it’s a competition and going hard is the way to win things?

Garry’s doing really well, he only has a couple more loads most likely, ditto Cosi. Cosi wonders if Garry has the stamina to beat him.
Garry says he’s tired but Cosi’s #1 in the house and he’d like to keep up with him.

Garry’s on his last run… But Cosi has just beaten him. By half a minute at most.
Cosi says he’d used every last drop of energy in him, and he was done, totally buggered. And he says then he realised he could be helping someone else now. “To be totally honest, I couldn’t give a stuff!”
Garry tries to get him to go help.

Michelle then gets her ego on and says that she understands the challenge was quite hard but it seemed like he was taking the easier way out.
Bitch, are you serious? He just totally flogged you at the challenge. How is that taking the easy way out? If he wants to have a lie down now he’s more than entitled to it. Let’s see how much help you offer when you’re actually done. If you’re not dead last that is…

Kirsten says it was like wanting to stop, once Cosi and Garry were done, but they couldn’t because they also had to not come last.
Michelle says it’ll be interesting to see if they’d come help the rest of them.

Cosi says to Garry that he doesn’t really think it matters!
Cosi and Garry are discussing how best to help themselves and Garry suggests helping Alison but Cosi says he’s completely stuffed.
Garry helps Alison, Cosi helps Kirsten. Cosi says it’s because they don’t want to see Black win!
Bryce says he was pissed off that they preach non-stop about taking out the threats and here’s a chance to help Michelle, who’s not a threat, and they don’t do it. “So practice what you preach, or shut up!”

Okay, Kirsten is a minor threat, but realistically not a huge one to Cosi. Alison is definitely not. Bryce is just cut up because they hate the arrogant Black Team. Suck it up!

Alison says thank god for Garry because the pile would not have moved quick enough without his help.
Kirsten says once she knew Cosi would be helping, she knew she wouldn’t come last.

Michelle is really annoyed that Cosi helped Kirsten, a huge threat, then didn’t come over and help her.
Bryce has one lap to go, figuring he’d go help Michelle after that, so Michelle’s happy.

Sam’s the only one without a partner to help him at this point so he figured it would probably be hard not to come last at this point.
Cosi and Kirsten finish off Kirsten’s pile. Kirsten says it was very nice of Cosi since he could have just sat out and not helped anyone.
Alison is very happy to see Kirsten finish and then Kirsten goes over to help Alison, too!
Kirsten thinks nobody helped Sam because he’s a very big threat in the game.
Sam figures he’ll be going to weigh in early!

Kirsten says towards the end of the challenge, Bryce and Michelle are getting cranky because nobody came to help them. Too bad, too sad!

Michelle says she’s quite surprised that Kirsten went to help Alison. HELLO?! She says they must think it’s a better idea to save Alison than Sam. Or maybe they just have faith in Sam.

Alison says that when she was done it was such a relief, but she knew Sam was still out there and only she could help now as it seems each person can only help one other.
Michelle says it’s now Sam versus herself and she says they’re pretty even.

Garry’s walking alongside Alison encouraging her. Awesome!
Alison says the last thing she wants is for Sam to weigh in early.

Next time we find out who the hell wins.
“I don’t need sympathy from anyone!” – Michelle, while continuing to carry wood. It looked like about the last of it though so maybe the sympathy is because she’s going to lose? Please be true, please be true, please be true!

  • I expect Bryce and Michelle didn't get any less time with The Commando than the others got with their trainers, we just didn't see as much of that because there was fewer of them and it's more of a hassle lugging the gear out to the bush every time they have a session.

I feel sorry for Bryce and Michelle. They're called Yanks. They're not welcome in the house. 7x24 they know if they slip just a bit then they are out. Blue and Red had larger teams and chances to pick their alliances. Bryce and Michelle seemed to only have intermittent training with the commando and less time with trainers. They seem defensive more than offensive. Come'on, the Reds have been snarky every which way! Just mean.
  • I've been considering that but the problem is if he does that he might lose immunity so if whichever girl he swaps with doesn't get him above the Yellow Line himself, he may doom himself to elimination. If he puts on a stack of weight and then lumps one of the girls with that weight, you have to figure it'll annoy quite a few people. His only chance then may be if he's swapped with Kirsten, since she's a threat, or Michelle, who may be getting on Blue's nerves with the whinging about the challenge.
I still hate the idea of weight swapping but it does, sadly, offer some intriguing possibilities!

I used to kinda root for the Black team but I lost all sympathie for them. I just don't care anymore.

Could it be possible that Gary'll gain weight to then switch with one of the girls to definitely put whoever he chooses under the yellow line?

I agree - Michelle used to be a fave of mine, but she's really starting to piss me off lately.
  • She used to be more likeable but since she's come back to Australia she's just come across very petulant and whiny. It's starting to piss me off. :-|

Michelle has never been portrayed as a particularly likeable character, has she? If the grabs we see do portray her truly then I do hope she comes last - in everything. Hard to warm to someone who smiles with the corners of their mouths downwards (now who's picky)?? And funny, like Munnalita before her who was a hairdresser, she has a bodgey sense of hair styling - not unlike Krystal's "beehive" from BB07. Sad. I'll go and have some more red wine.
