With many thanks to Peter, for letting me know it existed, and sodo, for telling me where to find it, comes this extended sneak peek into Season 3 of The Biggest Loser Australia, from the promotional DVD that came with today’s Sydney Morning Herald.

This clip is a full five minutes long, with much more footage, including more fleshed out (pardon the pun) footage of certain contestants.

Because of the length, I’m going to put my commentary behind the very first cut of the new season. Continue on if you want to see the clip and read my commentary!

First up we have a fairly extensive montage of the past two season’s worth of contestants, their challenges, arguments with trainers and so on. We get treated to what must be our 48th repeat of Munnalita screaming at Michelle, amongst other things. I’m sure we’re all glad to see her again, aren’t we?

Mr Voiceover Man tells us that “over 30″ lives have been changed forever by the show. I’m not sure if, “Hey, aren’t you that fat guy from the telly?” really counts as a life being changed, but I guess when you’re promoting a reality television show, you have to talk things up a bit.

Then we got treated to something the US version has done away with - a replay of the fatties pigging out on all the junk food at the start of the series. Will we get a repeat performance this year? As funny as it is watching them completely miss the point, I think it might be a little scary this year, with there apparently being 28 of them on the show. Things could get nasty when they get down to the last donut.

“Make her do it or I will break you in half.” - Jillian. In case you couldn’t tell. We miss you, Jillian!

“Ding dong the witch is dead!” - Chris, winner of Season 2, in reference to Kimberlie.

“Never again. It’s not acceptable.” - Damien

And then we move on to the bits you would have seen in the earlier Sneak Peek, with Adro and Chris winning their respective seasons.

And finally we’re up to Season 3 contestants!

If you’ve watched the original Sneak Peek, you would remember a faceless fat guy saying that if he was to have a heart attack and die, all he’d be able to give God would be a bunch of fat excuses. Faceless fat guy no more! His name is Michael. And he’s so fat (and the camera angle is so convenient) that I can’t see how much he actually weighs, but he’s quite a hefty fellow, as you’d imagine. Expect somewhere north of 150kg.

Then there’s the “yip!” chick from the original ads. She’s crying. No idea on her name still, that part is virtually identical to the original ad.

Then, however, we get a new name for one of the faceless fatties from the first ad! This one’s name is Garry, he is the one who loves his Dad, but his Dad doesn’t think he’ll be able to do it. No starting weight, even though he’s on the scale, so I suspect it may have been blacked out intentionally. He’s probably up around 150kg as well, if I had to guess. And he has a teeny tiny head. It’s like a grape on a watermelon. Have a look at him again yourself, around the 2:40 mark. I know, I shouldn’t make fun, but hopefully when he loses the weight he’ll look a little less odd!

Then we get a very short shot of young Sam’s face and boy, he’s really young. I had thought because he’s in uni and now on the show he’d be at least in his early to mid 20s. Seeing him in the ad though? I think maybe he’s only 18. I would guess even younger but for the fact that it might be difficult to get insurance for the show for someone under the age of 18.

After Garry we get another very quick montage of faces, no idea who any of them are. Soon my precious, soon.

“With more contestants than ever before…” This bit is the same as the earlier ad. Mr Voiceover Man says that, then the grossly obese blonde woman says the bit about looking in the mirror and thinking it’s disgusting.

“All want to be chosen…” In other words, we’re having that twist the Yanks had and only some will get to train with Shannan and Michelle and the rest will be “going home” and probably instead be trained with Commando Steve. So long as they’re only gone for about two weeks, as in the US version, I am completely okay with this twist. If it is more like our own second season, where Kimberlie and Chris came into the game after 6 weeks? There’s going to be some hating going on around here!

Cue montage of fatties rolling around in the mud grunting and bitching and moaning while Shannan and Michelle put them through their paces. I think this might be the selection process and perhaps they’ll be sent packing while muddy and sweaty, to help Commando Steve get into arsekicking character.

“For god’s sake, pull Sheridan!” Ah-ha! Another name! Seems to be a chicky but with that name, you never know.

Some footage interspersed with people puking, Sean getting oxygen…

And then Michelle getting a bit annoyed at one of the fatties and asking why he’s still yelling at her, to which he replies, “Because you give me the shits!” And right after that those two are in the gym and he’s throwing punches at the mitts and moving in too close to Michelle it seems, she asks something about why he’s coming at her and then a cut later he’s saying, “Stick it up yer arse!” And Michelle replies, “There’s the door, honey!” And we see him walking out a door and slamming it behind him. Suspect since it’s in the promotional material, he won’t be gone for good. But we’ll see?

Regardless, big man, picking on Michelle. Hope you have a good reason mate or you are going to be pilloried…

“Where do you think you’re goin’?” - Commando Steve. This is being widely interpreted as the above bit I mentioned about the US version of the show, where another trainer (in their case, Jillian) turns up to train the “rejects” from the main group. The US version of the show didn’t start airing here until Season 3 had started being filmed, so it’s entirely possible that the majority of fatties would have had no idea about this particular twist, which is why it’s plausible it is being reused. If it had aired here before they left, it would be extremely unlikely.

Mr Voiceover Man now tells us the challenges have gotten harder. I sort of doubt that, I suspect they’ll simply be very difficult in new and unusual ways. It’s not like this season they’re going to be asked to pull two planes or something, is it?

Footage of the maze challenge, including some fatties wandering around. Garry shows up again, as well as someone whose name seems to be Debra. She may be the grossly obese blonde from earlier, it’s hard to tell.

Then a montage of people on the scales, walking to the scales, gyrating wildly on the scales (Cosi, I believe he’s a radio “personality” from Adelaide?). We also see a Debbie on the scales. And Sean doing a silly flabflex and going “YEAHHHHHHHHH!” Heh.

“But in 2008, nothing will be as it seems…” - Mr Voiceover Man

“We came out last year to teach Shannan and Michelle a few things… We didn’t teach them everything.” - Jillian. Said with an evil glint in her eye.

Oh yeah, this is going to rock.
