Recap #31 – Sunday 11th March – Week 5 Weigh-in Results

Weigh-in night once again, week 5 results are in and they’re set to stun!

Who will lose weight? Who will gain weight? Will Ajay do a nudie lap of the weigh-in room after cracking under the pressure of having to be so boring all the time?

Read on to find out!

The teams return to the House and find that all the gym equipment has been returned at last, which makes the whole team and Shannan very happy. A lot of blue are carrying injuries, so they really need the equipment to help them out.
A lot of focus on upper body weight workouts today, since most of the injuries are leg related.

Red return a little while later, all in high spirits due to being the winners!
Michelle knows there’s still fractures in the team so she takes Munnalita aside to have a chat and asks what’s going on.
Munnalita bitches about Marty. A lot. Apparently he tells everyone what to do a lot and Michelle’s rarely around to see that part of his personality, she just sees the “good” Marty.
Michelle thinks that Marty is a valuable player for Red and he trains hard. It’s not that he’s a bad person, he just wants everyone to work hard and win for the team!
She also says that at the end of the day they just have to train hard and eat right and that’s all that matters.

Shannan goes for a chat with Laura, reminding her that this week is Project Laura!
He says that she appears to be training hard and appears she’s eating well, but he’s not sure all the bits are in place. He knows that the reason she’s put on weight is she’s the youngest girl in an Italian family and she’s been spoiled.
Him and Laura wander back out of the bedroom chat hand in hand. Oh dear!
They head out to have lunch together, with Laura cooking for him. Awww!
Shannan wants to check that she’s weighing all her food properly and so on.
He also says that the blander the food tastes, the less you want to eat of it. I have to wonder what the point is of eating at all if the food tastes crap!
Then he tells Laura that her Mum is going to want to kill him because she won’t eat her Mum’s cooking anymore when she gets home!
He knows that she badly needs to pull a good number this week or there’s every chance she’ll be the one heading home.

And now a special feature – catching up with Sam!
The old Sam would have never had the confidence to do a photoshoot, but new Sam is doing one!
She’s still fairly chubby, but she’s under 100kg now apparently, having lost 28.4kg. She started at 128kg though so she’s only just barely under 100kg!

Michelle now takes time out to chat to Marty. Marty says in his aside that he doesn’t trust Munnalita or Courtney. And he tells Michelle that he notices the others are often talking about what they’re going to do if they’re in elimination, whereas he thinks they should be focusing their energy on not facing elimination at all!
Munnalita wants to be in control and have the say in everything and as soon as someone else wants to have a say, she bitches. He sometimes feels like he wants to walk out, but he won’t do that because he doesn’t want to quit.
Michelle says she thinks they don’t get along because they’re both strong willed people and, well, it’s pretty much to be expected that they’re going to clash!

Munnalita is bitching about Marty with Courtney and Pati, saying she feels like she has to get permission to leave the gym. He acts like he’s the personal trainer when Michelle’s not around, which they’re not real happy about.
Afterwards, Michelle walks in to talk to Munnalita, Courtney and Pati.

Michelle actually feels like, as the trainer, she should be appreciative of someone being around to crack the whip when she’s not there… but she can also see that it’s probably not making him popular with the rest of the team.
She doesn’t want them to pretend that none of the bickering happened, she just wants them to move on and get back to training!

Courtney pipes up here with a side interview, saying that he’s not really too concerned about this weigh-in because if Red lose, he “knows” he has Munnalita and Pati to keep him safe, and they’ll vote out Marty. If Blue lose, then they’ll vote out Laura, which will cement the alliance he has with the Blue people. So either way, it’s great for him, it’ll get him that much closer to the final stages of the game.

Michelle asks Pati now if she feels the same way, and Pati says that about the training? Yes, she agrees.
Pati thinks Munnalita and Courtney are “nice people”, but when they talk about the game? It freaks her out a bit!
She now has an agreement with Greg and Marty to not vote for each other. But Munnalita and Courtney aren’t aware that she’s not really with them anymore!

And now another special bit – a catchup with Alex!
Still chubby… But there’s some muscles under the chub now!
Alex says the old Alex wouldn’t've been able to do a photoshoot before, because the photographer wouldn’t've had a wide enough angle lense!
He tells us it isn’t enough to talk about losing weight, you’ve got to get up and do something about it!
He’s looking good, it’s great to see his progress since the show.

Blue’s last chance training is very intense, as usual, lots of swapping between exercises to keep everything burning at once as much as possible.
They’re worried because they’ve lost three weigh-ins in a row.
Shannan pumps them up by reminding them that Red have been slacking off on their training, haven’t been getting up early in the morning like Blue to train.
Project Laura continues, Shannan wants her to post a big number so she’ll show the team that she’s contributing as best she can.
Laura almost cried a few times, but managed to hold off for once! Progress!
“As you get fitter, you can do more!” – Laura
Shannan is really impressed with Laura, as well as the other two girls. He’s squatting kind of obscenely over Mel as she does pushups though!
He’s especially proud of Damien’s progress, he’s up to 12km/h… then 15km/h on the treadmill! 190kg of man sprinting away. Kind of scary, but very impressive!
Shannan knows it hasn’t been a perfect week, but he’s confident!

Michelle doesn’t want to just work them into the ground during Red’s Last Chance, she wants to beat them into the ground! Get them to focus all their anger into the workout instead of bitching at each other.
“They’ve all got a bit of the mongrel in them!” – Michelle
Greg’s confident the bitching won’t affect the weigh-in, because as long as they’re true to themselves, that’s the important bit.
Marty’s determined that Red can win a fourth in a row.
Michelle knows that having 3 males is an advantage, but her two females are both very strong as well.
Michelle says that Red are the fittest team on the block (don’t believe you!) and Munnalita thinks they really are too. No idea where she’s pulling that idea from!

Before the weigh-in we get a bit of Mel’s video diary… where she’s looking absolutely terrible. Pasty faced, droopy eyes, scratchy voice. Poor thing. She’s got plenty of makeup on at the weigh-in again though.
Munnalita thinks that some of the Reds have been getting a bit homesick so maybe they might be in trouble this week?

And which Red will be sitting out of the weigh-in?
Courtney, because of the 2,200 odd calories, and having sat out of the basketball game, so he’s probably a bit behind on his weightloss compared to the others.
So he’s up first!
Week 5: 117.2kg – LOSS: 6.3kg
WOW! That is extremely impressive, given his weak numbers in virtually every other weigh-in, and having missed the challenge, and having made a pig of himself at Temptation? Phenomenal effort! Hate the guy, but damn, that deserves a round of applause!

Mel thinks maybe Red has made the wrong choice and Red were worried about the same thing!

Marty’s up next, hoping for 6.5-7.5kg.
Week 5: 130.1kg – LOSS: 6.7kg
Crikey! That puts him above 30kg in total.
He says it shows the hard work is paying off and it shows that if he can do it, anyone can do it!

Greg’s up next, he’s been thinking about his family a lot, wants to make them proud.
Week 5: 121.2kg – LOSS: 5.4kg
Pretty good, another good number from a regular good performer. His body shape is a lot better than it was, but he’s still got a ways to go!

12.1kg in total for Red so far.
Laura is getting concerned, because so far all the Red team’s men have done good numbers and Blue only has one guy!

Pati’s up next and she’s nervous, Marty’s confident in her ability though!
Week 5: 101.4kg – LOSS: 3.7kg
She’s happy with that! Greg says good on her, and she’s looking good!

Total now – 15.8kg… With just Show-me-the-money-lita to go!

Munnalita is extremely nervous. She goes on to say she wanted to see the number to prove to Michelle that having some of your favourite foods really doesn’t affect your weightloss. But apparently it does affect your ability to comprehend, since she still doesn’t fucking get it!
Week 5: 106.9kg – LOSS: 3.6kg
“Looks like you can have your Mars bars and eat them too!” – Munnalita
Greg points out that she’s lucky she’s in the House where they have the best environment possible for burning off those things and it’s a “temple” and she’s made a mockery of it, even continuing to try to justify it a week later. He points out that maybe if she hadn’t had those Mars bars, she might’ve lost a full 4kg instead.
Good, now say it to her face and/or vote her out. Thanks Greg!

Red’s total weightloss: 19.4kg
Percentage: 4.05%
Courtney’s convinced the Blues can’t win, because that’s 5 kilos for each of the Blues.
Nahuh, not so fast, it’s percentage based not raw weightloss!

Blue needs to have lost at least 20.1kg to avoid elimination.
D’oh! It’s a bit more than 5 kilos each!

Damien has immunity and is up first.
Week 5: 179.7kg – LOSS: 7.4kg
Very, very good! That will help the girls reach the quota.

They still need 12.7kg from the remaining 3. Doable but going to be hard.

Mel’s up next. She’s hoping for more than 3 and more than 5 would be great as it will get her under 90!
Week 5: 90.2kg – LOSS: 4.5kg
Yay! Not quite under 90kg but very close and it’s a good number, holds up her end of the team.
Ajay points out that her body is changing, look at her tummy, it’s flat! And oh my, yes it is. She actually has a figure now, not just a lump!

8.2kg remaining.

Pati is confident Jules can do 4, but Laura not so much.

Jules is up first.
Week 5: 106.9kg – LOSS: 4.5kg
Awesome! Especially when you consider she spent a while in hospital this week too!
Jules doesn’t want to leave this Earth any time soon, she wants to be healthy to be there for her kids. No tears though, just lots of positivity!

Laura is left with needing at least 3.7kg. Hooooooooo boy! The only other time she has done more than that was in her first week! As the numbers roll around, Courtney says, “Awww I can’t watch this!”
Carn Blue!
Week 5: 95.7kg – LOSS: 5.5kg
HOLY CRAP! Spanked them! She immediately runs off the scales and right over to her Blue teammates who run over to give her a huge hug!

Total 21.9kg for Blue. 4.43%
They won with one guy and three girls, versus two girls and two girls. Phenomenal effort!

Red now rue their decision to sit Courtney out. SUFFER IN YA JOCKS!
Oh boy, going to be the best elimination EVER.

Courtney’s got no idea who it might be that will be going home. Marty doesn’t know either. Pati thinks she’s in the middle and will probably have the deciding vote.

Tomorrow night is elimination night, where Courtney tells Greg that it’s not Courtney he should be worried about.
“This is the first time this has happened.” – Ajay
“How bizarre!” – Damien
Prediction? All 5 people vote for different people! Stay tuned for the bestest elimination EVER! Hopefully…

Munnalita really really annoyed me tonight. “Looks like you can have your Mars bars and eat them too!”

Well who lost the least weight Munnalita? Who cost their team the weight in Marsbarlita?

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Shocking, wasn’t it? I’d love to somehow be able to know what her number would have been if she hadn’t succumbed to Temptation, it would be really fascinating to know how much difference it made… Especially since Red really didn’t lose by all that much!

    • Tara

I am SO pleased with the result. Now I just have to work out whether I want Munnalita or Courtney to leave more *g*

    • Sam

      SPOILER WARNING:

According to the TV Guide its a hung vote.
And on Tuesday contestants meet Ajay in the weigh in room for a special announcement, I thought it wouldve been pairs but it says they compete individually on Wednesday.

    • Sam

Yeah but like mythor said the stupid bitch thinks 5 mars bars is acceptable.

    • barbara

What a great episode! I was getting so sick of blue losing the weigh-in.
I agree, Courtney did very well. It seems he has been training much better. I think Michelle generally whipped them all after temptation.
Munna’s 3.6 was not that good compared to everyone else, who all did fab. it was just her usual really.
Her face when they lost!!!! Indescribable.
      My prediction for tomorrow:
Courts and Munns vote Marty. Greg and Marty vote Munns. Pati??votes Courts. then blue votes???(I noticed Damien rubbing his hands together) -Greg or Marty as they lose the most.
So nice to see blues in the elimination room!
One thing I will say for Courtney, he seems to be enjoying himself.
I am so hanging out for tomorrow night now!!!!

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Yeah, I’m finding it a bitch to decide as well. The only firm decision I can make is that I don’t want Greg to go. He’s the only Red I don’t have any problem with.
It would’ve been easy a week ago – Courtney all the way. But he’s been putting in the hard yards lately… And Munnalita has gone absolutely batshit.

Sort of glad the public doesn’t get to vote, sort of wish we could. ;)

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Yes, that’s why I guessed that it might be one each all round, because they’ve had tied votes on the US version. But Ajay may have been just referring to there not having been a tied vote on the Aussie one, not sure.

I expect the pairs, if they happen this week, will be decided on Thursday, with the decision being made by whoever it is that goes on The Walk, or whoever that person chooses, etc.

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

I think you mean so nice to see Red in the elimination room. ;)

But yes, it was a great result, made extra great by being so totally unexpected. Blue kicked ass this week!

    • Sam

Oh yeah i forgot about The Pam-Wylie tie which got Nelson eliminated.

Someone on the BL forums pointed out that if Courtney goes that would make history,
      An immunity winner getting eliminated.

    • Amy

You can always tell who won/lost the weigh-in by the side interviews! I’ve never been wrong! There’s just something in the way they’re “narrating”, I dunno what, exactly. Maybe the losers always sound disappointed while the winners are saying “I didn’t think we were going to be able to do it” while grinning or something. It annoys me though! I’m never surprised!

It’ll be very interesting if it’s a hung vote – would blue eliminate the strongest on the red team (i.e. Greg), or would they consider that they’ll probably be paired up with them pretty soon and get rid of one of the weaklings? It’d be pretty funny if they chose Courtney though, considering he thinks he’s completely safe from both sides :D

    • Donna

I think Cortney and Marsbarlita vote Marty, Greg and Pati vote Courtney (Pati doesn’t want a girl to go and Greg is phobic :P ) and Marty votes Munnalita…..does Marty then get the deciding vote?

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

If it’s tied it’s believed that Blue will get to choose who is eliminated instead, but Ajay’s not said so on the show so far so we don’t know for sure!

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Yeah I try and work it out from there as well but then I usually forget who it is I think is going to win anyway! :)

Well Blue has always voted with their heart, not their head, so it’s possible they’ll vote out either Courtney or Munnalita, most likely Munnalita since they have the pact to not vote Courtney out.
But it could really be anyone on Red. I think that Pati is probably the only one that will be safe if it’s a tie!

    • Slim Jim

I agree!! Same with the challenges. They always give it away with the asides, like ‘I knew we could beat them’ as opposed to ‘I thought we could beat them’ – as these asides are filmed after the event. so you can tell the result. So annoying!!

    • Slim Jim

Loved Munna’s shocked face. Wish she could be that speechless all the time.

I can’t wait to see Shannan’s reaction when he sees them all there, and hears Laura’s weight loss! Project Laura worked! He is going to go nuts!

I don’t understand Munnalita’s comments about Marty. Is he really that annoying? Even Patti agreed. I haven’t seen that side of him. Could the producers be manipulating what they broadcast, so we will favour certain contestants? In my view, if he wants to talk out loud during the workouts and push everyone, how can that be annoying? Other than because Munna wants to be the centre of attention, and doesn’t want anyone to pay attention to Marty.

    • susanjacobs

So, I am being arbitrary and voting for people who I don’t think will get voted off just to mess with the numbers. Is that wrong?

Munna really, really needs a smack in the head. I had 2 Snickers this week. Why? Because I wanted them. I enjoyed them. However, I also know that it wasn’t good for me, and I probably shouldn’t have had 2. If I get that without all the help she has, what is it going to take for her? I hear lobotomies are good sometimes.

    • Louise

Well I certainly hope it’s Munnalita who goes. Courtney has picked up his game a bit, and Munnalita has seriously lost the plot. If blue does get to choose i hope they don’t choose Greg. I can’t believe that Munnalita was still trying to justify her 2 mars bars! And Greg was so right when he said that in the environment they are in it’s easier to work off the mars bars. I reckon he’ll vote Munnalita.

If Pati votes Munnalita or Courtney and neither of them go she’s gonna be in trouble cos they will then realise she’s not playing the game they want her to play.

I was so stoked for Laura! And did u notice she mentioned her dad in the aside without crying? she’s certainly getting tougher! The red team were so cocky it was good to see them fall from the pedistal they put themselves on. Munnalita looked like she could have bitch slapped the blue team.

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Yeah I can’t wait to see Shannan’s reaction tonight, especially when they tell him that Laura was last and therefore essentially “won” for the team. He is going to bounce off the walls!

They showed a little of what Marty’s been doing during the whole back and forth last night. It looks like he’s just been telling everyone what to set their bikes to during their exercise and pushing them hard and so on. I can see how that might be annoying but honestly? Tell him to shove it and ignore him. It’s not that hard, I wouldn’t've thought. I suspect the problem is really that they know they need to work harder and just don’t want to, so they resent Marty telling them to do it…

    • barbara

      ooops yes!

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

      YES! :-P
The pre-elimination voting doesn’t get very high numbers anyway because most people don’t check in between the poll going up and Monday night’s elimination, so it’s not a big deal, no. It’s really there more for my own curiousity to judge the contestant popularity just within their own teams. ;)

I’m not sure a lobotomy would do much. Need to have been using the brain for it to matter if part goes missing?
Was it 2 at once? Or just two spaced over the whole week? Either way, yes, it’s not so “bad” to do it, but you do need to at least acknowledge that it’s not really that good for you. And really, you’re not in an intensive program designed to help you lose weight, so if you slip a little here and there? Oh well!
Munnalita’s just disrespecting the whole thing and especially disrespecting Michelle. Such a waste.

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Yeah, I think apart from his gameplaying, Courtney is really making some progress. Earlier on, he would’ve participated in the Temptation just because he was an idiot. Now he only participated because he wanted to get control of The Walk for his team. I’m not sure that he would’ve if they hadn’t made that pact.

I think that deep down Munnalita might understand that two Mars bars isn’t acceptable, because she does keep trying to justify herself… But I’m not sure, because she’s been such a dope in so many other respects it’s hard to tell.

Laura is definitely crying a lot less of late, it’s been really good to see. She even grins from time to time and I don’t recall if she ever even really cracked a smile during her first few days in the House? It’s a huge improvement and I’m so glad she’s going to get at least one more week!

    • Louise

If Munnalita does survive elimination I bet that she’ll get all cocky and say to Michelle that even though she had 2 mars bars she still lost 3.6 (or whatever it is) I can just imagine Michelle’s reaction… i’m sure it’s time to seriously beat some sense into the woman!

    • Louise

I was just thinking… If Jillian was still there, what would she be doing about Munnalita?

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

Not sure, I’m pretty sure Michelle’s going to tear into her if she doesn’t get eliminated, but I don’t know if Jillian could be any more hard on her than Michelle has been.
If anyone tells Michelle about Munnalita’s crack about the Mars bars there’s probably going to be hell to pay!

    • Sue

Someone said earlier that they can tell who won the weigh-in because of the side interviews. It’s called a “losers edit”. The producers will edit the show to make it seem that one team won, when in reality the other team does. It’s meant to keep us thinking one thing, and then shock us with the actual results (which is meant to keep the show interesting and us surprised). So whenever you watch the show, you can usually tell who won, with the edit. The person/team who won will be downplayed and the losers will be pushed forward as being stronger etc.

Personally I would love to see the Blues eliminate Courtney. He’s starting to become a real competitor in the weigh-ins, so they could take him out with the strongest person mentality. Or because of the game playing, which the Blues know about. Also I think Munna would have to start playing properly without Courtney there. Courtney would survive without Munna without an issue, but it would be interesting to see how Munna copes without Courtney.

    • susanjacobs

Yes, it was 2 at one sitting. I agree, Munna is being disrespectful, but I think the one she is being most disrespectful to is herself.

    • carly the crocodile

i don’t see anything wrong with munnalita having two mars bars at once, so long as it’s something like once a month, or once a week at the very very most. it’s a vast improvement on her previous habit of probably the equivalent of five or ten mars bars, probably more than once a week.

i think she did pull her weight at the weigh in, and if anything it was all the sooking that was the problem much more so than the two mars bars.

also, i’m at the stage of the game where i like all the contestants, including marsbarlita (cute nick name!) and courtney, although they are my two least favourites compared to all the others.

    • http://cactusfreek.blogspot.com/ CactusFreek

I don’t want Greg, Patti or Marty to go.

I still want Damien to win the game. Dispite the fact that he’s got the most to lose, he’s also the nicest guy!

    • http://mythor.net/thebiggestloser Mythor

I wouldn’t be too sad to see Pati go, to be honest. Marty? Bit sad. Will be devastated if it’s Greg, though.

Damien winning would be awesome. He’ll have to lose so much weight to do it so he’ll be almost unrecognisable!
