Team Swap Twist – Have Your Say

The World Wide Intertubes are abuzz tonight with discussion about the results of The Walk from the latest episode – the Team Swap Twist.

Many are saying that this latest twist is turning the show into a fatties version of Big Brother, with not many people saying this is a good thing for the show.

What do you think?

Are you happy Bob won the 2009 competition?

Personally, I’m a bit on the fence on this one. On the one hand, I hate that they set the teams up to try and work together towards the common good and send them off on exercises to emphasise that team based approach and then turn around and force people to swap teams once they’ve got a good rapport going.

On the other hand, I can’t help feeling that this is the best thing that could happen for Laura, who is most in need of this opportunity, with the worst chance of getting to stick around long enough to take advantage of it. Now that she’s with the much more nurturing Blue team, along with her mate P’eta, I’m hoping she’ll get a chance to come out of her shell and kick some arse.

I realise it’s a TV show and that they therefore need it to be Must See TV, but I just wonder if maybe this sort of thing is better left to shows that’re more manipulative in nature by design. All this backstabbing and conniving is really detracting from the otherwise very positive message the show has.

Do you think this is an instance where the demands of TV should take precedence? Vote now!

The only reason I agree with it is the whole concept of this show is a game first and foremost. The weightloss aspect of it is second...

I just look at these fatties being voted off and can't help but feel sorry for them as they NEED to lose weight!! But still, you can't rely on a tv show to do that for you, they have to want to do it in themselves.

I thought it was funny when Kelly was saying that she was worried she wouldn't be able to keep up her weightloss because she'd have to go back to her "normal" life if she was voted off.
What, the girl can't make decisions about what food she's going to stuff into her mouth??? Ugh!

It is the second season of the show. So every one of them had a chance to check it out and see how it is played. Yes, there are some new elements, but it is pretty much the same show. They knew that getting their head screwed with was part of the game. This falls under "screwing with their heads".

I am so glad that Laura is a blue now. Red was not going to give her what she needed to do well. P'eta wants to win, but she will look out for Laura and that is all for the good.

Okay, I looked at all the comments and I can't find it.

Mythor, why are you banned from the TBL board? I gotta know. Thanks!
  • The ban's expired now, but what happened was a member of the forum started a thread purely to attack me (oh noes!) and at least one other person joined in.
That's fine, but the moderator saw the thread, saw that it was abusive, left a comment in the thread, but didn't do anything to stop further abuse.
So when I finally saw the thread I stepped in and stood up for myself, saying nothing particularly offensive, yet I got banned while no one else did.
I'm unbanned for now, but I suspect there's a very good chance I'll be banned again later. :)
  • Well, yes, they knew there'd be head screwing, but it's more a question of whether this particular one is a bit too screwy?

Yes, even though Laura's position in Blue is likely to be a bit shaky, I think she's far better off with them than with Red. I really only feel sorry for Mel of the two of them.
  • Well I think Kelly was worried about how she'd find time for all the exercise and so on she needs to do, when she also has to be looking after her kids and doing her job and so on. Hopefully the lessons she learnt in the house will stop her from shoving bad things in her mouth anymore!

How unfair! The one who started it should have gotten the ban, not you. I think you should wear your banning with a badge of pride!

I saw that David from Season 1 is a mod, and he has posted on the TBL board that he will be tougher because he "wasn't going the job" as a mod. So he is probably following the letter of the law at the moment, which is not good.

When I need to confirm that people with low IQs and questionable spelling and grammar really do have internet access, I go to the TBL board. There are the intelligent people in there, but the majority... they sometimes scare me with their attitudes and wilful ignorance.

Maybe it is a bit too screwy, but they gotta do something to the contestants. I know they are on teams, but in the end, the only person they answer to is themselves. So if they can do well in one team, you would hope that they can do well in the other. I agree with feeling sorry for Mel.

It does seem like a hit to the stomach to build up all that teamwork only to try to undo it. I was thinking that these people will come up against challenges like this in real life. How will they handle it? Like they used to and emotionally eat? Or will they step up and get on with it? So it is a kinda real world object lesson that is just plain weird in the context of TBL.
  • Yes, I saw the post from him and have since had an email from someone else who has been banned since then, for an even more retarded reason than I was.
I've said my goodbye and I suspect when I post a link to the latest recap tonight I'll be banned once again, since that will technically be against the rules...

It's funny how people who aren't really hurting the board get banned while other people are allowed to spew forth all kinds of crap unimpeded. I can't be bothered trying to be helpful if at any time I could get banned for something silly.

Yeah, the TBL forum is, at times, even worse than MOSH was in Ye Olden Times. Plenty of good people, plenty of absolute idiots.
    Oh well!

I popped into the forum last night, seemed to be filled mostly by tools, so I left again. How is posting the link to here against the rules, Myth?
