Recap #14 – Monday 19th Feb. – Elimination 2, I’m Blue, Boo!

Sorry for being late once again, there’s a lot to cover this episode, so if you’d like to know what happened or need a handy reminder sheet, read on!

“Oh my gawd, oh my gawd, we actually won?!” – Pati

Marty seems to be the only one with any sympathy for Blue, Damien in particular, as he could see that he was really upset by losing such a small amount.
Once they head out to the lounge, Marty seems to be hovering around Kelly… Looking to comfort her, perhaps?

Gerard points out that the Blue team has three men and four girls, so it’s not hard to see who should go. Can’t eliminate Michael or Damo because they’re the strength. Gerard is happy to vote along with Kelly and Jules, because they’re both single parents like him, so that leaves Mel.

Damien, Mel and Jules all seem to be voting for Kelly, or so they’ve said. Leaving just Michael and P’eta’s votes in doubt.

Mel says that she’s not ready to go yet as she’s just gotten to that weight that she always seems to have trouble getting past.

Kelly and Michael head up to find out P’eta’s vote… and she immediately says she’s not telling. Apparently Kelly had earlier spoken to P’eta, on the very first day she entered the house, to inform her of the alliance they had, and P’eta agreed.
Now P’eta is saying her vote is going to be a last minute decision, giving Kelly another reason to stab her in the back!

P’eta said she might vote for Michael because he comes across as sneaky and him and Kelly have been really pressuring P’eta into bowing to the alliance’s will, and she’s starting to resent it.

Kelly’s feeling a bit uncomfortable because if she has to leave then she has to go back to work and go back to running her family and so on and that won’t leave a lot of time for her to continue losing weight.
She doesn’t explain how that’s any different to all the concerns all the other competitors have, of course…

Jules, in another of her rare talky bits, says that Kelly just isn’t stacking up. She doesn’t like the way her and Michael are always of scheming and giggling, and they spend a lot of time in the spa together, apparently…
Mel said that Damo’s on her’s and Jules’ side and that from what they’ve been told by P’eta, she’s on side too. So it’s looking more and more like either Michael or Kelly could be in for a booting…

Kelly tries to explain the way she’s played the game she way she has to Michael, who totally understands, of course.
In a video diary section, Kelly says that she thinks the others want to vote her out not because of her strength, but because she’s struck up a friendship with Michael. Kelly thinks Mel has feelings for Michael and she’s taken their friendship the wrong way.

P’eta is finding it hard to choose because she’s only known these people for four days. I would have preferred the two newbies be left out of the voting altogether for that reason, and to prevent any hating from occuring, but it’s not to be…

Ajay congratulates Mel for being under 100kg and asks her if she still thinks she needs to be in the house.
Mel, of course, thinks she does!

Ajay asks Kelly if there’s alliances on the Blue team and she says she felt like there was one between Damien, Mel and Jules, so she tried to form one between herself, Michael and P’eta when she entered the house.

Ajay asks Damien if he feels like his low number might put him in danger with the rest of his team, and Damien says that if that’s the way they’ve gone, so be it!

Jules is first to vote, saying she’s voted for them because they haven’t hit the accelerator from the start until the threat of the elimination was hanging over them, as well as scheming with people on the Red team, tsk tsk tsk!
Jules votes for Kelly!

Mel’s up next, saying the decision is difficult, but it’s part of the game.
She, too, has voted for Kelly.

Kelly: 2.

Kelly makes it pretty clear who she’s voted for, saying she’s young, light and she’ll be able to do it outside the house.
Yes, she’s voted for Mel.

Michael says the main thing influencing his vote is he’s a man of his word, and he’s intending on voting for the one who doesn’t put in the numbers they need at the weigh-in.
Michael has voted for Damien.

Kelly: 2.
Mel: 1.
Damien: 1.

Gerard’s vote has gone to someone who needs to do their homework, to someone who has just been getting under his skin, which he says is a selfish reason. Not really a team reason, more of a selfish one.
And he reveals his vote to be… Michael, who is sitting right next to him. Carn, punch him one!

Kelly: 2.
Mel: 1.
Damien: 1.
Michael: 1.

This has got to be the most split vote I’ve ever seen on the show!

Damien said his decision was extremely hard to make, he’d rather not send anyone home from the Blue team, and he felt the person was a strong member of the team… but he didn’t appreciate the way this person tried to manipulate P’eta when she came into the team. Trying to form alliances and so forth, and he felt that it was disruptive to the Blue team. And he felt that was more important than the results on the scale today… So his vote is for… an ad break!

No, Kelly, actually!
Three votes for Kelly, buh-bye!

Kelly was disappointed by the vote, thinking that they might have based it a bit more on performance in challenges and weightloss and such. Ha!
She says in response to Ajay’s question that she’d never actually sat down with Michael and said hey, let’s form an alliance. And that she now feels there’s an alliance between Damien, Mel and Jules.
At this point, Damien speaks up and asks Ajay if he can put a word in there. He tells Kelly that that is not actually true, there is no alliance between the three of them, they haven’t made a pact to try and get each other through, it was only when Kelly started trying to form an alliance with people that he decided to vote against her.

Kelly then says that Damien had always said he’d be basing his votes on what the scales said, to which Damien says no, he said he would be LARGELY basing it on the scales, but he felt Kelly’s actions outweighed the results she got.

Michael then tries crawling up Kelly’s bum by saying on behalf of the Blue team he wants to thank her and applaud her strength and leadership and so on. She did great at the plane challenge for fighting through the pain of her injury, etc.

Ajay asks Gerard if he has any words for Kelly, and he says they have a lot in common and he likes her and is looking forward to seeing her in April and so on.

Time to go away now! Bye Kelly!
She actually goes around and gets hugs from Jules and Mel, a kiss on the cheek from Michael, a big hug from Gerard, and a peck on the cheek from Damien, and a hug from P’eta.
“Seeya!” Someone says, rather perkily!

Ajay now reminds them that if they don’t want to be back in the elimination room next week, they’re going to have to put in the hard yards this week.

Gerard says his team is feeling very flat, quiet, dead inside when they came out.
Greg knew what they were feeling, as they went through it last week.

Jules says that Michael seemed very upset, but she wasn’t sure if that was because Kelly was gone, or because the alliance was broken.
Greg said that the really hard part was putting the team back together now.
Courtney’s sitting there with the Red team… but not in his red team shirt. Tsk tsk tsk!
Damien tells the Red team that there was a lot of single votes in amongst the voting, it wasn’t unanimous by any means.

Michelle and Shannan finally arrive at the mansion to see their teams.
Shannan does the Bob trick of counting up people, though he doesn’t do it out loud.
He first asks his team to go through their weightloss figures. Saying “Good” or “Okay, good” or “good boy!” to each of them.
Damien tells him he’s disappointed with his 2.2kg and he doesn’t understand. If Shannan explains it, we don’t hear it.

Shannan asks them how they came to the decision to get rid of Kelly, and Damien says that it really came down to the way Kelly was trying to form alliances with people.
So Shannan, rather bravely I think, asks his team if they have any grievances they feel they need to air out now. Uh-oh!

Mel says she’s annoyed, and that yes, this is directed at Michael, she doesn’t need someone who wasn’t even working out at the start of the week to come in and tell everyone to keep working hard so they’re not up for elimination.
Jules is next cab off the rank, saying that before there was any alliance, there was names floating around for who might be up for elimination, and her name was put up there and she was upset about it.

Shannan thanks them for their honesty and tells them he doesn’t want any sneakiness or backstabbing, it all stops right now.
So he’s decided to take them out to cheer them up… They’re going rock climbing! Indoor rock climbing!
Gerard is STOKED. Like, really, really happy. Pumping fists and saying awesome lots. The whole shebang.

Now it’s the Red team’s turn and Show-me-the-money-lita has decided it’d be great to play a prank on Michelle by hiding underneath a table before Michelle comes in, so she’d be disappointed not to see her. Wouldn’t it be great if Michelle started hooting and hollering and cheering that Munnalita was gone, or is that just me?

Michelle was very disappointed at first and the Red team were struggling hard not to crack up but eventually they cracked and up popped Munnalita from below the table and Michelle was very happy, threatening to kill Munnalita and the rest of the team in training.

She goes through all their numbers and announces she is happy with their results. As a sort of reward she takes them out to the basketball court for some different training. She thought this would be a great change of pace because you don’t really know you’re training because you’re busy trying to focus on the various aspects of the game.
Greg admits that he doesn’t really know very much about the game, all he knows is that the ball is round and you’ve got to bounce it. Maybe the next reward should be a soccer match, huh Greg?

Munnalita is flailing her arms everywhere, not very effectively.
Most of them don’t want to stop playing, they’re all having too much fun!

Gerard said that Shannan was trying to rebuild the trust in the team, Shannan telling them that there’s not much more trust you can have in your teammates than having their life in your hands.

Damien goes first, being spotted by Gerard. And Damien is pretty terrified of heights!
Shannan tells him he wants the Blue can-do attitude to come back out now.
Gerard says it’s awesome seeing Damien climbing up the wall at his weight.
He’s finding it pretty hard though, slipping down a lot. He says his huge stomach gets in the way of using his legs too much, so he’s having to use his arms a lot, which isn’t the ideal way to do it apparently.

Jules has a bash next and she got a fair way up before starting to freak out a bit when she couldn’t find a handhold so they let her back down.
Mel and Gerard have a bit of a race next, with the rest of the team cheering them both along. Both of them make it all the way up!

Shannan now says in an aside that there was still one problem, even though the team was bonding back together again – it was still trainer here, team over there.
So he challenges them to a race to the top!
But there’s a catch… Whoever loses has to do 50 pushups! If Shannan loses, he does 50. If Mel (their selection) loses, the whole team has to do them.
Shannan graciously gives Mel a headstart.
Just as he’s about to start, the other guys on Blue sneakily attach a 15kg weight to his butt!
Shannan scurries up the wall like a freaking monkey or something. In the end, it’s declared a draw, so everyone does 25 pushups together!

And now we see how Kelly has been doing since leaving the show, 2 months on….
Running up a bush path, boobs jiggling everywhere!
She now gets up at about 5.30am and goes for a run with a scarily butch looking female workmate, because she likes to have someone to train with. She goes to work, then after work goes to a gym for an hour.
She’s gone from a size 22 to a size 18. Her goal is a size 12-14.
She shows us the shirt she wore to the academy and says she’ll definitely be in it by the finale!
Her kids are impressed by the improvements in their Mum, saying she used to slob around on the couch a lot, but now she comes out to play with them, goes in swimming races with them, and so on, which they tell her is great!

Since leaving the show, Kelly has lost 20.9kg.

Tomorrow night the challenge is an endurance race. Looks to be on treadmills out on the front lawn of the mansion. No time limit is set and it’ll be last man standing.
Temptation looks yummy! Some weird chocolate fountain contraption you dip sticks of brightly coloured stuff in. Looks great!
And we also have a “stranger” at the gate who appears to arrive in a jeep, stands at the gate and sets off a red smoke flare. “He looks serious!”
Tune in all this week to find out what in the hell is going on!

  • Yeah but the Fiona/Tracey/Artie one was very clearly an alliance/friendship. I'm not sure this new batch is actually an alliance... but there may need to be a "yet" attached to that. I think that Jules and Mel ought to ally with Damien, since Jules and Damien desperately need as much time as possible in the house and Mel would give them the extra vote they need to virtually guarantee they'll get it.

Still sucks that people are forced into such things though. There has to be a better way!
  • Lisa
That is possible, but call it what they like, agreement or friendship etc still an alliance to vote together. Remember when everyone was dirty about Fiona, Tracy and Arties "friendship" last year! LOL!
  • Yes, I wonder sometimes how much the contestants know about some of the scheming going on. I think it was clear the Red team didn't realise how deep the Courtney scheming was running at first, but I think they may've wised up as the days went on!
  • I'm not sure if Mel and Jules see it as an alliance, but it's possible. I do think that if Damien felt it was an alliance he would just come out and say so though. He doesn't seem to be the sort to be anything but upfront about things, but that could just be the oft-cited editing process making him appear nicer than he is.

I still don't really have anyone to get behind since the departure of Alex... :-(
  • miss_doobie
Well, I guess that answers my earlier question about them knowing if she is a cow or not. Yay!

Thanks for the recap. I missed it again because of class. I will have to remember to tape it next week. I would have loved to see Kelly's reaction to being voted for. She does great facial expressions.
  • Lisa
I am in the horrible position of having no-one to get behind! God help me I might have to start going for Courtney! LOL!

I had been feeling the Damien and Jules love before last night. Jules is a sweet player and Damien just flat out lied at elimination. There is nothing wrong with admiting that you have an alliance. It IS a game but trying to take the high moral ground as well is a bit rich.

I know some will say that they just threw an alliance together just that day.... but that just doesnt come across as true for me.

    Great re-cap as usual!

I voted for Mel in that "Who will be eliminated" poll for this elimination because I thought the Blues would chose her because she's the smallest. Didn't realise Kelly had been so annoying to them. But at least it wasn't unanimous
  • I actually preferred Kelly's hair down to the super tight and sleek look she was sporting before. I thought it softened her image a bit, something she kinda needed. She still wasn't an attractive lady by any means, but she didn't look like quite such a sourpuss.

Shannan probably did have words to Damo about the problem at some point, but it did seem a little odd that he didn't even toss a "Don't worry about it, mate!" in or anything. Good to know I wasn't the only one who thought that was a bit weird!
  • Leah
It was hilarious watching Michelle pretend to be so RELIEVED that Munnalita wasn't gone. As if the producers don't tell the trainers everything that's going on in there! *laugh*

There was some pretty strange editing when Damien was pouring his heart out to Shannan about his disappointment in himself after he'd worked so hard etc etc cut straight to Shannan saying "big whoop Damo, now tell me why y'all voted Kelly out?" The last training session I saw Damien do was a strength and weight lifting workout which would have built heavy muscle but no mention was made of any explanation like that.

The sniping in the elimination room about the alliances etc and the bulldust that came out of some of their mouthes (like Gerard) was embarrassing.

So was kelly's hair at elimination (she looked like a total hag even though I think she was trying for the beach babe, windswept look) and that god awful red lipstick on those pursed little cats bum lips ewwwww.

Oh and on the subject of Kelly, the looks on her face when people were announcing their votes was hilarious. Rolling her eyes when one of the girls mentioned that Kelly was conspiring with a member of the red team. She even looked OUTRAGED when Gerard started saying stuff, she thought it was all about HER hehehehe.
