Recap #10 – Wednesday 14th Feb. – Temptation 2: Attack of the Clones!

Temptation night! I think a lot of viewers are tempted to punch Courtney and Munnalita in the face, so it’s fortunate that’s not an option.

For many, the real temptation would probably prove more… tempting… anyway.

To find out the details of the temptation and associated drama, read on…

Blues are spewing as they have to have frozen meals for breakfast as well, not just dinner, due to losing the challenge last night.
They eventually decide on waffles and gelati for the most part. Damien also had a couple of chicken nuggets to get some protein. Kind of a strange breakfast!
Michael expressed some misgivings that it might not give them the energy they need to rebuild and regenerate their bodies and so on.

Michelle turns up to a Red team doing some early training again and asked them about their spiffy calorie controlled diet.
Then she moves on to her first on screen solo training session, as Jillian doesn’t seem to be there today?
She’s pushing them, but not as hard as Jillian would… Not that I’m at all biased. ;-)

Shannan turns up flying solo as well, so it looks like Bob & Jillian have gone home for the moment.
He asks his team about their frozen meals last night and he was quite impressed at the way they doled them all out, with Damien getting the highest calorie meal and Mel getting a nice low calorie one, etc.
He wants them to use the “punishment” as motivation, because the idea of the punishment is to make it harder for them at the weigh-in.

Kelly’s still carrying her injury a little, though the medics have apparently said she’ll be okay for now.

Mel’s harping on about Gerard’s lack of motivation when it comes to training, she still feels he gives up much too easily.
Shannan says he’s figured out that the secret to getting Gerard to train hard is to give him an “escape button”. In the case of the exercise bikes, they usually have them standing up on the pedals, rather than sitting on the seat. In that instance, Gerard’s “escape button” seems to be letting him sit down for a bit if he needs to, but to continue pedalling while he does. So rather than going off in a huff and losing that high heart rate he still maintains a good rate and when he’s ready to go again, he can rip straight back into it!

The temptation for today is… a 24″ pizza!
With a lot of mozarella and pepperoni and sauce on it.
Marty admits to pizza being one of his big weaknesses, as does Michael. Michael says he’ll sit down to have a piece or two and it’ll turn into three or four and before he knew it, the pizza was gone from the table and in his belly!

For this temptation, both teams made a pact beforehand that they wouldn’t step forward for temptation.
Under one slice is immunity from elimination. Under another is a 32″ LCD HD-ready television!
The challenge only goes ahead if everyone takes a flag, apparently.
And perhaps more importantly, if no one gives in to the temptation, immunity will remain with Courtney! Which should have been a big motivation for Blue, if not the other Reds…

As soon as Ajay says ready steady spaghetti, Damien dummies that he was going to sprint for a flag… and Gerard really does sprint over there!
Since no one else grabbed a flag, the pizza was sent back without Gerard getting to see if he chose correctly… and a 12″ pizza replaces it.
One piece of the original 24″ pizza was 1038 calories, which is a really scary amount! No wonder people get fat on the things!

Regardless, everyone is looking at the 12″ pizza with a lot more interest… and yet as soon as Ajay said go, no one flinched.

And then Gerard walks forward again. But this time he chooses to take two flags.
The first time Gerard grabbed a flag from the first pizza, Kelly was fuming. The second time he went forward and took flags, I think she was about ready to punch him!

520 calories for the two slices it would have been.

But oh no, another temptation!

This time the waiter brings out a tiny pizza. Maybe 6″. And he wafts it under the noses of all the competitors first!

Damien has a quiet word to Gerard beforehand and tries to get the Blue team to stay strong again.

65 calories per slice this time. Which is not very much.
Unless you take all 8 flags as Gerard did! 520 calories. Crikey!

Marty justifies the Red team’s decision to sit out the temptation by pointing out that they’re doing the hard work in the gym so they hopefully won’t lose the weigh-in anyway and won’t need the immunity!

Meanwhile Kelly’s annoyed at Gerard as he’s giving the Reds the impression that cracks are starting to form in the Blue team. No, sweetheart, you muttering and mumbling under your breath is doing that. Reds know why he did it – because they know you all want him gone as well!
Gerard’s busy munching away on the tempting pizza, while Mel and Kelly bitch about him behind his back.
Ajay asks Gerard what he thinks his trainer would say about it and Gerard admits he’ll probably get caned in the gym. And in the background Mel mumbles, “Yeah, and then you’ll crack.”
Kelly says that she was glad Ajay didn’t ask her what she thought of Gerard’s decision, as she would have said something naughty!

Ahhh, but this year, Immunity is a double-edged sword, isn’t it Ajay? Gerard will now have to face… The Walk! Just like Courtney did last week you mean? Sheesh.
“When Gerard returns… IF he returns…” Oooooooooh?

Gerard then goes and sits down in the lounge and Red come in and have a chat with him, where he admits to them that he knows Blue want him gone. Afterwards Mel is bitching him out in the kitchen with Jules, apparently he was saying “I feel bad, I feel bad” which Mel thought was a bit wrong, because if he really felt bad, why’d he do it?
Gerard walks in on the tail end of the conversation but doesn’t hear anything important. He smiles happily and tells them not to bother making any lunch for him!

He goes off to sit down with the rest of the team and apologises for not sticking with the team during the temptation, but he felt he was too much under threat not to do the temptation. The rest of the team is still filthy with him, which is absurd, since they’ve said over and over that they’d vote him out if they had the chance. What was he supposed to do, guys?

So yes, as it turns out, not Pati doing The Walk this week. Tricksy? Or was it just poor lighting before?
Regardless, Gerard’s decision will apparently CHANGE THE GAME FOREVAHHHHHHHHH!

Tomorrow night’s episode will be a 1 hour episode, possibly with some kind of very interesting twist – I think they might be getting a new competitor on the show, since there seemed to be some fatties in civvies walking towards the bridge that is part of The Walk.

Somewhat more interesting episode tonight but tomorrow’s is looking to be much better, assuming the drama is real and not just hype again!

  • I think he was feeling bad about it because of eating something he shouldn't be, but mainly because he was breaking the Blue team's solidarity when it comes to Temptations. Everyone else was staying strong against it, but he kept caving in.

I like that immunity is a bit more of a gamble and that they're actually giving everyone an opportunity to strip it away from other contestant's now... but yes, The Walk and The Drama surrounding it are getting a bit much.
I wonder what they'll do if the contestants stop caving in on Temptation challenges? Or will they have progressively smaller ones each time like the pizzas?

Mel comments about that if Gerard felt bad then why did he do it? Has she ever been around kids? Does she know what it feels like to be backed into a corner with only a pizza as your way out? I guess not.

I see why Gerald felt bad. 500+ calories for one meal is big when you are trying to lose weight, but I don't think it is that much. Average calorie intake when losing weight can range from 3000-5000 calories (if I remember my mother's weight loss attempts correctly). If he is smart about it, he will eat less at another meal and he will be okay. He may be hungry, but it isn't the end of the world.

Or is he feeling bad because he was given no choice by his team mates? That would make me feel worse. As he saw it, that pizza was his only option. I can't say that I saw much to disagree with it.

YAY!! Courtney doesn't have immunity! If I was one of the Reds, I would have had a share in that small pizza just to make sure that Courtney didn't get a chance to sail through another week.

Courtney enjoyed the cracks in the Blue way too f'ing much. He looked like one of those cartoon baddies, rubbing his hands together and mwahahaha'ing all over the place. The more I see of him, the less I like him.

The Walk is shitting me to no end. When I first heard about it, I thought the walk would be a 5 Km hike through rainforest and lots of hills. Basically what I would call a 'death march' because that is what it feels like when you are going through it. This whole "it will change the game forever" business is shitting me too. I don't like this element and think it is just lame.

    Yeah - it's a game afterall .....
  • I said that in the recap, didn't I?

    *checks*

    Yep! :)

1 hour to fit in all the DRAMA I assume.

I am really looking forward to tomorrows episode, it's an hour, isn't it?
  • Yeah, I don't blame him. He needed that immunity and he's right, his kids will love the TV and their skinny new Dad.
He'll be spewing if he loses his immunity though! Ha!

If nothing else, it was worth it for that alone. Just remains to be seen if Red will wise up and turf his backstabbing ass!

I don't blame Gerard for taking 520 calories for immunity + a big telly. Even though Courtney was rubbing his fat little hands together with glee that blue has issues, Gerard was right that his team would have pushed him out. BUT what happens if he loses immunity in the stone thingy???

but thank goodness Courtney didn't get to keep his immunity, that would suck big-time.
