Spoiler alert! More Biggest Loser drama!

Today’s Daily Telegraph (Sydney) has a spoiler for The Biggest Loser in their Sydney Confidential section. Even hinting at what the spoiler is in relation to is spoiler-y, so if you want to know every last detail when it comes to the show, you’ll have to read on…

Apparently, yet another contestant is going to be leaving the show, this time due to a major medical issue. If you do not want to know who it is, do not read beyond this point!

CHANNEL Ten’s weight-loss show The Biggest Loser 2 is shedding contestants quicker than kilos.

After only one week on air, the reality series has already lost two participants, and a third has been hospitalised.

Confidential can reveal Sam Birrell is the contest’s latest casualty and will be forced to quit on Monday after developing a blood clot in her leg.

While a Biggest Loser spokesman was quick to point out the injury wasn’t linked to the show, he said Birrell had to leave because she was unable to maintain the program’s rigorous exercise schedule.

“She was admitted to hospital for a few days and treated with anti-coagulants then returned home under the supervision of a vascular surgeon and her GP,” the spokesman said.

“Sam has made a full recovery and is now continuing her weight-loss journey with the help of the The Biggest Loser support network and is feeling better than ever.”

Birrell is expected to make a guest appearance on the series finale but the spokesman confirmed she would no longer be eligible for any prizes.

Her exit from the program comes only days after the competition’s heftiest contender Sarah Peak walked out because she found it too physically demanding.

Another participant Gerard Fleischer was also admitted to hospital during the week with chest pains but was given the go ahead by doctors to continue in the weight-loss quest.

Despite the unexpected exits, the spokesman said the series would still continue for its original 11-week run.

“It just means the twists and turns will become a little more varied,” he said.

As is usual for Sydney Confidential, they have a few facts wrong here and there.

Firstly, only one competitor has left the show in the first week – Sarah. If Sam is going to be leaving come Monday, that would make two total, but not in one week. If they proceed with an elimination after that, that will make three.

Secondly, Sarah was far from the “heftiest contender”, she was just the heaviest female. Damien tips the scales a full 63kg heavier than Sarah!

Thirdly, they haven’t actually had a second weigh-in yet, so there’s no way to know if they’re shedding contestants or kilos faster!

Anyway, this is very sad news for Sam. While I’m sure the show has started to teach her the ways to make changes to her life, to be forced out so early due to something out of her control must be devastating. It’s good to know that she’s overcome this problem and has started back on the road to fitness.

Best of luck to you, Sam!

and fourthly, it wasn't because it was "physically demanding" that sarah walked out. one thing that stood out for me was her reaction to the final feast. surely she must have seen last year's series and had some idea how hard it would be, but i don't think it clicked for her until the final feast how things are played up for the camera. she was disgusted with the implication that the reason she got fat was from stuffing her face.

i say good on her for sticking to her guns. bringing in cat to talk her out of it wasn't really relevant, because sarah and cat are very little alike, the only similarity really being their starting and ideal weights. sarah walked out because of the emotional demands, not the physical demands. i think she will do better in her secure home environment than on the show where she was extremely uncomfortable.
  • See, the thing is they actually do go through a psych test beforehand, as well as, obviously, a bunch of other medical testing. A lot of people are assuming that that doesn't happen because of things like this, but previous contestants have confirmed that there is a psych doctor involved!

Damien seems to be going great guns so far. He's a huge man, but I think being a singer is helping him a lot as I suspect he has a much better lung capacity than you would normally expect from someone his size.

Apparently some of the previous contestants have put some of the weight back on, but it'd be great to see Damien get down to Adro's size... don't think it'll happen quite so quickly though!
  • You've probably not seen the half of it. Lots and lots of people being rude over there and nothing gets done about it. Total shambles. I'm trying to step away from it when I can now but eh...

I just wandered over to the official webpage, and they are giving you hell, Myth. I did post, but I think I like it better over here. :)

The show should put applicants through a Physiological test, because that is what it is with Sarah (its in her mind). She has no self confidence and is very dependent (she always spoke of her *need* for her boyfriend). She is the only one who will change herself, like Jillian said in the first scene when Sarah told Michelle she didn't want to continue the journey "cant help sorry let her go!".
But, in making good TV she was a good one to through in the mix!

I hope Damien does really well and Courtney stops winging and starts exercising. Alex did do well to push himself around the Sydney Tower and needs to keep doing that to loose the oxygen tank.

I hope they all do well like the last contestants!
  • Yes, the producers know now, but I don't know when they do the editing so I'm not sure they'd be that devious. Certainly a possibility though!

I'm sure Courtney and his cronies will just justify that by saying he's bigger so of course his numbers are bigger, I don't think they'll care how well Alex does.

Yeah, there seems to be a slant of "anti-Alex" on the show. I am hoping that it is the editing. The producers *know* who is eliminated, don't they? So they could edit to make us think Alex is going and then SURPRISE, he pulls through. Just a thought...

I think it will come down to the numbers. IF Alex can pull up with good numbers, they are not going to be so quick to get rid of him.
  • Yes, a lot of people have been wondering how in the heck Sarah managed to make it through the selection process. It does seem strange. I think I've said it before, but I'll repeat it now - I think what the producers were hoping was that a kick in the pants from the trainers was really all she needed to turn her around and they took the gamble.

Ooh, cool! I hope he doesn't get eliminated tomorrow then, as many people are suspecting might happen!

    damn, go alex, asian pride!

That is a total shame. All that hard work and you are out because of a blood clot. That is a whole world of suck.

Sarah should have never been chosen. I can't believe she got into the program.

I know Alex in RL. So I am hoping that he wins!
