Australian Federal Election - Preferred Party Poll #1

With the next Federal Election set for the 24th of November, I thought it might be interesting to gauge the current mood of people with a poll.

The answer to this poll is not meant to be definitive. By answering you’re not saying that this is definitely who you will be voting for and nobody else. I’m just curious - as I would think many are - to see if the percentages change much or at all over the course of the election campaign.

So, with that in mind…

    One important reason why PM John Howard should not remain in office is his unfair harsh workplace reforms. Under his fantastic new WorkChoices legislation, the average worker has the choice to either earn less money, or work more hours. Now that's a great choice, isn't it?!

WorkChoice legislation varies between employeers, there are a lot of happy miners on AWA's. Personnally I want to be able to negotiate my employment terms, no have some union official lump me in with everyone else and get me paid what he managed to negotiate. AWA's are all about choice. Ignorant comments like this remind me of a saying "small scared dogs bark the loudest".

    I think you'll find more workers happy with what their union does than there are happy with being forced onto an AWA. Maybe it's because AWAs are new, maybe not. I think it's likely they're unhappy with the fact that at least unions were looking after the worker's best interests, even if it's not in any one individuals best interest. AWAs are in businesses best interest, not workers, and there's no collective group that can do anything if people are getting screwed.

    I think you'll also find that a goodly portion of AWAs get rejected by the Government's own watchdog organisation as being unfair. Which says that businesses are attempting to take advantage of their workers under the new system and that some, at least, are getting away with it.

    I'm no fan of unionism but the Government's "WorkChoices" scam is certainly no better.
